07-December-to-13-December-Mass on a submarine – 1933

A unique ceremony took place in the cape Town docks on Sunday morning when His Lordship Bishop Hennemann celebrated Mass on the deck of one of the two visiting Italian submarines, the Sciesa and the Toti. The crews of these two underwater vessels, more than 150 men, are nearly all Catholics. The Bishop was accompanied by Rev Dr Colgan, who acted as assistant priest, Very Rev Fr Mullen, SC, who preached to the men in their native Italian, and Fr Konder, PSM.

05-December-to-11-December-Tragedy strikes school choir – 2001

Tragedy struck the Inkamana High School choir when three of their Grade 10 girl choristers were run down by a hit-and-run driver, killing two of the girls, leaving the third in hospital with severe injuries. The 52-member strong choir had just completed a special bus tour of Mpumalanga and were in Johannesburg for the final weekend before returning to their school in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. According to the choir master, John Gregory, the girls had been crossing the street on their way to a hostel when they were run over.
