Staff members at Maryvale College High School celebrated the publication of two books. Dr R Looyen, the principal of the college contributed to a book published by JUTA titled “Best Practices of South African Public-School Leaders” edited by Prof de Groof and Dr Mollo. Dr Looyen’s chapter dealt with Co-Operative Governance in Public Schools.
The school is very proud of author, Ms Catherine Jarvis, Head of Department FET, who won Gold at the Sanlam prize award ceremony for Youth Literature. “The Swim Team” is a book about a 16-year-old girl who receives a scholarship to an exclusive Johannesburg school for her excellence in swimming. The novel explores the contemporary issues of race and privilege in South African schools.
