
Christian Brother Gerald Loftus, former principal of CBC Green Point in Cape Town and CBC Boksburg, died at St Francis Hospice in Dublin, Ireland, on June 19.
Br Loftus also taught at CBC Kimberley and CBC Welkom, and was an accomplished maths and history teacher. Hailing from Northern Ireland, he also coached rugby and cricket. One of 12 children, he is survived by his sisters Finola, Jean, Deirdre, Eileen, and brothers Vincent and Martin. His brother Fr Martin Loftus is a Salesian priest. Br Loftus’ Requiem Mass was celebrated on June 24 in the church of Ss Peter and Paul in Baldoyle, County Dublin, followed by burial in the Bl Edmund Rice Cemetery.
