Little Eden Society honours Founders on Pilgrimage
Little Eden Society, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing lifelong care to 300 children and adults living with Profound Intellectual Disability, recently commemorated its founders with a special pilgrimage journey.
The event, held at their Bapsfontein Home on May 11, paid tribute to the Servants of God Danny and Domitilla Hyams, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for the organisation’s mission of compassion and care.
The pilgrimage journey began at St Thérèse parish in Edenvale, where pilgrims gathered for Mass to honour the memory and legacy of the Founders. Participants then boarded buses bound for the Bapsfontein Little Eden facility, where they embarked on a journey of reflection and remembrance.
Little Eden Society CEO Xelda Rohrbeck said that this pilgrimage journey was a testament to the enduring legacy of the Servants of God, Danny and Domitilla Hyams.
“Their commitment to serving persons living with intellectual disability continues to inspire us all, years after their passing and this pilgrimage is a fitting tribute to their extraordinary contributions” Rohrbeck said.
“The pilgrimage is a meaningful occasion for all of us at Little Eden Society and it serves as a reminder of our roots and the guiding principles that continue to shape our work today. We are grateful to everyone who joined us in commemorating the Founders and honouring their legacy of love and service.”
The pilgrimage provided participants with an opportunity to connect and reflect on the profound impact of the work of the Founders. As visitors walked around the Bapsfontein Home, they were reminded of the love and compassion that has characterised Little Eden Society’s mission for the past 57 years.
Rohrbeck pointed out that as Little Eden looks to the future, it remains committed to upholding the values and principles established by its Founders, ensuring that every individual living with intellectual disability under its care, receives the love and care they deserve. She expressed gratitude to all who attended and special thanks to Archbishop Buti Tlhagale, Bishop John Selemela, Fr Phuti Makgabo, Fr Solly Mphela OFM, Fr Deneys Williamson and Regina Coeli for their contribution to the day’s success.
