Archbishop Buti Tlhagale confirms 20 young people from Daveyton Parishes
By Kati Dijane – Twenty young people from the four parishes of Daveyton, Benoni, in the Far East Rand Deanery, namely St Martin de Porres, St Nicholas, St Lambert and St Monica, received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Archbishop Buti Tlhagale on July 28 at St Nicholas Catholic Church.
The church, packed with families and friends, celebrated the special Mass with the Archbishop, Father Michael Miriti, who was officially installed parish priest by the archbishop, assistant parish priest Father Charles Gachingiri, former parish priest Father Nathaniel Kagwima, Deacon Vincent Morare, rector of the Consolata seminary, Father Simon Mbala, and seminarian Brother John Bosco Otieno. During his homily, the archbishop encouraged confirmants to be disciplined in their journey towards attaining their dreams, mainly by studying hard. “What you want to be is not far away from this moment,” said Archbishop Tlhagale, “so, it’s important to gather your energy to work hard, be disciplined and persevere in order to reach your goals.”
He further encouraged the youth to succeed in life to make their parents proud. Since the church in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg marked Safeguarding Sunday, the safeguarding team were also reintroduced to parishioners, and their role was explained pertaining to the safety of children in the church. The PPC thanked the archbishop for selflessly serving the Archdiocese of Johannesburg for 25 years.
