Focus on Schools and Education at Fundraising Initiative in Lesotho
By Bokang Tsoanamatsie – Members of Maria Mabasotho Pastoral Oblate Centre in Lesotho attended Mass in their school uniforms on January 26 in an initiative aimed at motivating students who had recently returned to school, emphasising the importance of taking their education seriously.
Additionally, it served as a fundraising effort to support underprivileged students from the schools managed by the Centre, including Motimposo Primary School, Mabote RC Primary School, Bishop Cenez Primary School, and Bishop Cenez High School.
In collaboration with the Education Facility Unit, the Parish Priest, Fr Ramotinyane Clement Tampane OMI, identified that many classrooms in these schools were in disrepair, having been poorly constructed. Issues such as asbestos roofing, broken window panes, and inadequate toilet facilities, which pose safety risks, were noted.
Fr Tampane is actively seeking solutions to these challenges through fundraising efforts and by providing essential school supplies to children from low-income families. He, along with his Pastoral Parish Council, is appealing to the community for assistance in enhancing the learning environment of the schools.
The Sisters of the Holy Family were also present, urging the congregation to support their fundraising campaign aimed at converting Mabathoana High School from a public institution to a private one.
At the conclusion of the Mass, the St Anne Maria Mabasotho sodality presented Fr Tampane OMI with a new blanket and a monetary gift, which he announced would be used to tile the outer floor of the church.
