Holy Cross Church in Garankuwa, Pretoria, Launches Jubilee Year

By Daluxolo Moloantoa, pics by Thulane Msiza – Holy Cross Church in Garankuwa, north of Pretoria, held an opening of the Jubilee Year on Sunday, starting with a procession from outside the churchyard, leading into the churchyard and to the church doors. Parish priest Fr Harrison Mulenga CSS blessed the church doors before the procession entered the church. Standing beside a display and a Jubilee Year banner at the altar, Fr Mulenga explained the mission of the Jubilee Year and its significance for the universal Church in this millennium.

After his explanation, another procession took place, this time led by a group of children towards the church altar. When they reached the altar, parishioner Dr Luxie Mokwena gave an explanation of the various aspects that make up the Jubilee Year logo, after which Mass started.

After the Mass, the Jubilee Year prayer was recited in the Setswana language. A parish representative read out the book Intentions of the Jubilee Year and explained how the Church, especially at the parish level, can strive towards achieving the ideals of the Jubilee Year in this year and beyond it.

Speaking to the Southern Cross after the Mass, Fr Mulenga detailed the Jubilee Year collaborative initiative among the three Garankuwa parishes, namely the Holy Cross Church, the Maria Ecclesiae Church and the Christ the New Man Church. The three churches have devised a plan to commemorate the Jubilee Year through a variety of events, which will include discussions on diverse topics across all three parishes.

“We will commence with the Jubilee Year launches at each of the three parishes. Following that, we will host a series of discussions and other events to highlight the significance of the Jubilee Year for both the Church and society at large. The next Jubilee Year will occur in twenty-five years, so we are committed to ensuring that the Garankuwa parishes actively promote the message and ideals associated with this Jubilee Year,” Fr. Mulenga stated.

The next launch for the Jubilee Year is scheduled for this coming Sunday at the Maria Ecclesiae Church in Zone 4, in Garankuwa.
