Oblates Celebrate founder St Eugene de Mazenod Feast Day

The Oblate community gathered at the Mazenod conference centre to commemorate the feast of St Eugene de Mazenod. Bottom right: Fr Koenane Stephen Molefi, who celebrated 25 years of priestly life.
By Bokang Tsoanamatsie – The Oblate community gathered at the Mazenod conference centre in Lesotho to commemorate the feast of St Eugene de Mazenod, the founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, on May 21.
Holy Mass was celebrated by Provincial, Fr Sydney Boatile. The community received candles consecrated by the Provincial, symbolising illumination and a renewed reflection as members of the congregation, guided by their constitution, celebrate 200 years of recognition as a religious order.
The homily was delivered by Fr Paul Khatala, who emphasised the significance of each Oblate, particularly when they comprehend the mission and vision of the congregation as articulated by the founder, St Eugene de Mazenod. “Even if you feel misplaced, remember that you are important because the congregation has numerous missions and roles to fulfil,” he stated. He reminded them that their mission is to serve God and His people, and while carrying out this mission, they should refer to their constitution, especially with the 200th anniversary celebration approaching next year.
The Oblates also prayed for their fellow Oblate Priest, Fr Koenane Stephen Molefi, who was marking 25 years of priestly service.
Following the Holy Mass, there were speeches of thanksgiving. Fr Sydney Boatile, the Provincial of the Oblates in Lesotho, remarked that while doing good and speaking positively, they must steer clear of anything that could divert them from their calling and remember the strong relationship they share with the Holy Spirit, as exemplified by St Eugene de Mazenod. He reminded them of their commitment to their mission.
Celebrating 25 years of priestly life, Fr Stephen Molefi expressed his gratitude to all those who have contributed to his life. He mentioned that he is celebrating this milestone during a Holy Year, similar to the time of his ordination 25 years ago. Fr Molefi was brought up in the Archdiocese of Maseru, specifically at the Paray Mission in Thaba Tseka. He is presently engaged at the Mazenod printing works of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Lesotho.
The Oblates of Mary Immaculate were established on January 25, 1816, by Eugène de Mazenod, a French priest who was later canonised a Catholic saint. The congregation received official recognition from Pope Leo XII on February 17, 1826. St Eugene was renowned for his profound compassion for the impoverished and his unwavering dedication to evangelisation.
