Doing the will of God, even when it is the toughest thing to do
By James Katende – Doing the will of God, especially when it is the toughest thing to do, is a challenge that many people face in their spiritual journey. The will of God is often associated with what is morally right, what serves the greater good, and what aligns with divine purposes. However, these actions are not always easy, and sometimes, following God’s will requires personal sacrifice, courage, and perseverance.
There are moments in life when the will of God may not align with our personal desires or the expectations of those around us. It may require us to make difficult decisions that go against the grain of societal norms, family pressures, or personal ambitions. The path of righteousness is often not the easiest or most comfortable path to walk, but for many believers, it is the path that they are called to follow.
One of the most significant examples of doing the will of God despite its difficulty can be found in the life of Jesus Christ. His entire life was devoted to fulfilling the will of God, culminating in His sacrificial death on the cross. Jesus’ willingness to face suffering, rejection, and death for the sake of humanity’s salvation exemplifies what it means to submit fully to God’s will, even when it is difficult and painful.
For many people today, doing the will of God may not involve such extreme circumstances, but it can still be challenging. It may mean standing up for justice when it is unpopular, helping others in need even when it requires personal sacrifice, or forgiving those who have wronged us, even when it feels impossible. It may mean making choices that are not easy, whether in our personal relationships, careers, or ethical dilemmas.
At times, following God’s will may also involve a deep sense of uncertainty. We may not always understand why certain things happen or why God is calling us to act in a particular way. In these moments, faith becomes crucial. Trusting in God’s plan, even when we cannot see the full picture, requires a deep and abiding belief that God is good and that His will is ultimately for our well-being and the well-being of others.
Ultimately, doing the will of God, especially when it is the toughest thing to do, requires courage, faith, and a willingness to surrender our own desires in favour of something greater. It is through these acts of obedience that many believers find a deeper sense of purpose and connection to the divine. Following God’s will, no matter how difficult, leads to spiritual growth, transformation, and, in many cases, a sense of peace that surpasses understanding.
