Sisters of Holy Family of Bordeaux Formation Workshop
By Bokang Tsoanamatsie – Following the tradition of the Sisters of Holy Family of Bordeaux in Lesotho during the winter season, the sisters who have professed temporary vows—Christina Mosothoane, Julia Maeeane, and Caroline Maoeng—gathered for a two-day formation workshop at Roma Convent.
This year’s workshop centred on the inspiring and profoundly challenging document titled “Three Essential Calls for Religious Life.” Under the guidance of five dedicated formator Sisters, the sessions provided rich opportunities for prayer, reflection, sharing, and learning.
The group delved into the three essential calls:
- Interior and communal transformation: deepening prayer and strengthening community life
- External revitalisation: realigning ministries with the cries of the world and the margins
- Creativity in religious life: responding prophetically and joyfully to the Spirit’s call.
The three sisters express their heartfelt gratitude for this sacred space of dialogue and discernment, where each Sister was able to engage with the Charism in a spirit of openness and courage.
The sisters of the Holy Family of Bordeaux bid farewell to their Mother Superior, Sr Anamaria Alcalde, on July 8, who was on a canonical visit to Lesotho.
The Holy Family sisters of Bordeaux were the first congregation of religious sisters to arrive in Lesotho following the arrival of the first Catholic missionaries in the mountain Kingdom in 1862. Their community is known for several high schools, including the renowned St Mary’s High School at Roma and Holy Family High School in Leribe, as well as health centres throughout Lesotho.
May Sr Christina, Sr Julia, and Sr Caroline continue to flourish in grace and joy as they embark on this beautiful journey of temporary profession. Let us keep them in our prayers as they strive to fulfil God’s mission with faith, love, and hope.
