Neocatechumenal Way Meets Archbishop Sipuka

Neocatechumenal Way meets Archbishop Sithembele Sipuka of Cape Town

What was supposed to be a quick, 15-minute visit turned into an inspiring two-hour conversation when representatives of the Neocatechumenal Way met with Cape Town’s Archbishop, Sithembele Sipuka.

The meeting provided a wonderful opportunity for the group to connect with the Archbishop and share the impact of the movement’s evangelising work in Cape Town, which has been growing steadily since 1986. The delegation highlighted their various pastoral initiatives, community activities, and the positive fruits that have emerged from nearly four decades of local mission.

Participants described the long discussion as incredibly warm, fraternal, and marked by a deep sense of mutual listening.

“We give thanks to the Lord for this moment of grace and for the Archbishop’s closeness and pastoral care,” said Dino Furgione, representing the Neocatechumenal Way in Southern Africa. He added that the community is counting on the Archbishop’s prayers as they continue their mission within the Archdiocese.

By the end of the meeting, Archbishop Sipuka offered strong words of encouragement and support for the movement’s future.

“You are the fruit of the Holy Spirit,” the Archbishop told the group. “I support you and encourage you to continue the evangelising mission in my Archdiocese.”
