Preparations are gathering momentum for the centenary celebrations of St Scholastica Mission, one of Limpopo’s oldest and most cherished Catholic missions, as the community prepares to mark 100 years of faithful witness, education and service in November 2026.
Situated in the Setati area of Limpopo Province, St Scholastica Mission has, for a century, been a place where generations of children received not only an education but also a strong foundation in faith, discipline and service. Established by the Benedictine missionaries in 1926, the mission has played an important role in the spiritual, educational and social development of the surrounding communities.
Over the past century, St Scholastica Primary School has educated thousands of young people who have gone on to serve South Africa with distinction in many walks of life. Among its most notable former pupils is the late Tito Mboweni, former Governor of the South African Reserve Bank and former Minister of Finance, whose achievements reflect the enduring legacy of the mission’s commitment to education and character formation.
As excitement builds toward this historic milestone, the Centenary Committee is extending a warm invitation to all former learners of St Scholastica Primary School, wherever they may now live, to become part of the celebrations.
Whether you attended the school many decades ago or graduated more recently, you remain an important part of the St Scholastica family. The organising committee is encouraging alumni to reconnect with their alma mater by assisting with preparations, sharing memories and photographs, volunteering their time, helping to locate former classmates and teachers, or supporting the celebrations in any other meaningful way.
The centenary is not only an opportunity to celebrate the mission’s rich history but also to pay tribute to the generations of priests, religious sisters, teachers, catechists and community members whose dedication has shaped countless lives over the past century.
A date in November 2026 has been reserved for the celebrations, and the exact date will be announced in due course.
Former pupils, friends of the mission and everyone who would like to contribute to the success of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration are warmly invited to become involved.
