Eskom Group Chief Executive Dan Marokane led an Eskom leadership  oversight delegation to the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC)  Election Hub in Midrand on Friday, 30 October, to review final  preparations and assess the country’s readiness for the 4 November  elections.

During the visit, Marokane briefed IEC Chief Electoral Officer Deacon Sy  Mamabolo and the IEC leadership, including IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya, on Eskom’s  extensive election support plans, the culmination of months of  preparation, and the utility’s 24-hour power system monitoring  capability.

With Eskom’s 43,000 Guardians on standby across the country, the  organisation is prepared to support the IEC and help ensure a successful  electoral process.

Beyond their professional responsibilities, the meeting brought together  two senior figures in South African public life who share a strong  connection to the Catholic faith.
Both men have previously been featured in The Southern Cross, where  their Catholic backgrounds and the influence of faith on their  respective leadership journeys were explored.

Marokane was featured in the September 2026 issue of the Southern Cross,  under the cover title “Guardian of Our Lights”. The article explored the  profound influence of his lifelong Catholic faith on his leadership  journey, tracing his roots to his Catholic upbringing in Maboloka and  Letlhabile, west of Brits. It also highlighted his family’s ties to St  Zeno Parish in Letlhabile and his formative years of education at Tsogo  High School in Mmakau, north-west of Pretoria.

Mamabolo, meanwhile, was profiled in The Southern Cross in December 2024  in an article titled Rev Sy Mamabolo: The Deacon Who Runs SA’s  Elections. An ordained permanent deacon since 2018, he serves at the  Church of the Resurrection in Bryanston, where his faith informs his  commitment to servant leadership and the common good.

Their shared Catholic background added an interesting dimension to their  meeting, bringing into focus the relationship between faith, public  service and the responsibility of leadership.
Their collaboration highlights the importance of public service, guided  by faith and common purpose.
