Save Water, Save Money

A reader shares his tips on the water restrictions and how to manage them

José Scalabrino, Cape Town – With the drought and water restrictions affecting us, everyone I know is desperately asking: “But just how am I supposed to save water?”

My answer: Plug all waste water outlets in the home, and continuously collect all waste water from every source into 10-15 buckets. Do not flush any toilets ever, but use only the waste water in your buckets to directly flush toilet bowls as and when it is necessary to do so.

All waste water can be used in buckets to water the garden, wash the car, windows and so on.

I’ve done this, and in the last 11 months I’ve saved 110000 litres of valuable drinking water and R3000 on my municipal accounts—and everybody can do the same.

And please, may we all pray very earnestly for God-sent rain.
