Bene Merenti for Deacon John Vorster
Deacon John Vorster, a retired headmaster and stalwart of St James’ parish in Port Alfred, and other parishes earlier, has been awarded the papal Bene Merenti medal for exceptional service. Although retired, he continues to take services when parish priest Fr Trymos Munyaka is away on diocesan business.
The Bene Merenti Medal is an honour awarded by the Pope to members of the clergy and laity for service to the Catholic Church. The medal is a gold Greek Cross depicting Christ with his hand raised in blessing.
