Catholic Women Gather in Jhb for Global Prayer Day

CWL Johannesburg diocesan spiritual director Fr Vincent Pienaar and CWL national president Bernice Cocci at the World Day of Prayer held in Johannesburg.

We did not choose God — God chose us, said spiritual director Fr Vincent Pienaar.

He added that we all have choices, and how we use ours is up to us.

Fr Pienaar was speaking at St Theresa’s parish in Edenvale, Johannesburg, on the annual World Day of Prayer held across the globe by the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations.

The event was held by the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of Johannesburg archdiocese, and attended by Johannesburg and national council members.

Diocesan CWL president Matilda Dube, with members of the diocesan council and from various regions, participated in organising the day.

National office bearers present included president Bernice Cocci, first vice-president Mavis Ngwenya, second vice-president Elaine Phillips, news correspondent Bongi Mavuka, and national treasurer Gabriella Marsella.

Fr Pienaar, as CWL diocesan spiritual director, celebrated Mass and gave the homily.

After the homily, Bernice Cocci gave a talk on the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations.

Refreshments followed in the church hall, where members had “fellowship and catch-up time”.

An amount of R2823.20 was raised for the world union.
