Radio Veritas Hands the Mic to Sodalities
As part of Radio Veritas’ 20th birthday celebrations, the station will open up the airwaves to sodalities for the whole day on Tuesday, November 26.
In what the station calls the “Radio Veritas Fun Share Relay” — or #RVfunshare2019 — ten Catholic sodalities were invited for the initiative. The first four to respond were then invited to participate.
“Each group gets a presenter who will take them through training to help them prepare for the day, and together they will decide on the promo, content, presenters, producers, guests, and features of their time on air,” said station manager Khanya Litabe.
All normal programming will be suspended for the day, with the exception of Mass at noon.
“Each group will be asked to select a charity and gets two hours and 50 minutes’ airtime to market themselves and their chosen charity while taking calls from the members of their constituency and from other listeners,” Mr Litabe said.
The objective is to raise funds for the selected charity and for Radio Veritas.
“In the end, the chosen charity of the winning group will get 10% of all the funds raised on this day, and Radio Veritas will receive a list of needs from this charity,” he said.
The winner will be announced on Friday, November 29, at 8:10.
To determine the time slots that each group/sodality will occupy on November 26, a draw was held live on air.
The participating groups are: Daughters of St Anne (6:00 to 9:00), Catholic Men’s Association (9:00 to 12:00), Catholic Charismatic Renewal (13:00 to 16:00) and St Anne’s Sodality (16:00 to 19:00).
“The Radio Veritas Fun Share Relay will run every quarter to give more groups an opportunity at the mic,” Mr Litabe said.
