Cardinal Napier Appointed Apostolic Administrator of Eshowe Diocese

By SACBC – His Eminence Wilfrid Cardinal Napier is now the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Eshowe following the appointment by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, whose decision was communicated to the President of SACBC, Bishop Sithembele Sipuka through the Nunciature on the 9th of February 2021.

Cardinal Napier takes over as an Apostolic Administrator following the transfer of Bishop Xolelo Kumalo to the Diocese of Witbank. Bishop Kumalo whose installation is yet to be announced was appointed the Bishop of Witbank by Pope Francis on 25 November 2020.

Bishop Sipuka wished Cardinal Napier well being aware that he has the added responsibility after the recent passing away of the Coadjutor Archbishop of Durban, Abel Gabuza.
