Witbank Diocese Launches Pastoral Plan and Synod On Synodality
The Church in Witbank gathered at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Witbank, to celebrate the launch of the Southern African Bishop’s pastoral plan and the Synod on Synodality. Fr Sello Makgale, leading the launch, explained why it is important to have this Synod in our parishes and small communities. Why did this happen at the beginning of the year? The main reason was that of the mission of all the members of the church that we are all called to participate in the mission of evangelisation.
As Catholics, we are called to participate, communicate and do the mission work in our respective Dioceses, Deaneries, parishes and outstations. It is sad to see that some parishes are still relying on parish priests for everything. However, nowadays most people are exposed to more information about the teachings of the church.
This is high time that people start taking catechism seriously – not only to wait for their children to attend catechism at church. The bishop during his homily emphasised that people should participate in the church and that they should not side-line the young people. He mentioned that the people should be more missionaries than just churchgoers.
As the church, we should be able to walk together, work together and allow each other to learn. The bishop also encouraged the congregation to care for communities and the environment. All members from the elderly to children must participate in this Synodality. This is not a journey for one, but a journey worth journeying together as one, Bishops, Priests, Deacons and laypeople.
