Come Dine and Dance with the Stars for St Hubert’s Church in Alex
April 27 is a big day in South Africa’s calendar. It is the country’s Freedom Day. The day before is bound to be an even bigger day for St Hubert’s Church in Alexandra, Johannesburg. On this day, the church hosts a star-studded gala dinner comparable to no other so far in the archdiocese of Johannesburg.
“St Hubert’s Church is a Catholic heritage site in the archdiocese of Johannesburg. It was built in 1919. With over 100 years in existence, the site needs a lot of improvement and meticulous renovation as it holds a lot of history behind it.
Therefore, the motivation behind the fundraising dinner is to improve the look of our church and its facilities – that is our old age home the Blessed Joseph Gerard Old Age Home and the St Martin Nursery School and the church building itself,” Lebogang Mqhayi, spokesperson for the gala dinner organising committee told The Southern Cross.
The gala dinner will take place at Our Lady of Cedars Catholic Church in Woodmead, a stone’s throw from the Alexandra church on April 26, at 7pm. Among the star guests to grace the charity event is guest speaker Katlego Danke, a popular actress who has entertained local audiences in TV hit series such as Isidingo, Generations, Backstage and countless others.
Also invited as guests of honour are several members of the clergy such as Fr Patrick Dladla and Fr Thabo Mothiba, both sons of the parish.
Sisters invited include Sr Nkhensani and Sr Perpetua. Musicians to serenade the evening affair include Thuso wa Sibini, who’ll double as the MC too, Kgethang Konese, Vincent Shibambu (Bassist) and Sylvester Motlakane (Tenor).
“We are honoured that well-renowned South African actress Katlego Danke, who has had extensive roles in television soap operas, will be our Keynote guest speaker. We are looking forward to hearing more about how she has encountered Christ through her life journey. Our very own Thuso Wa Sibini will be Master of Ceremonies, and will also serenade us with a couple of songs from her album.
Some of our well-known music artists within our Catholic community will grace us with their presence and give a sample of their musical talents to our esteemed guests. Celebrity guests will add an element of surprise for those who will be there.
Finally, there will be an auction held at the event. Art pieces will be displayed, for bidding and the proceeds will be used for the great cause of uplifting the church and the greater community of Alexandra,” Lebogang concluded.
Please see the details for the event on the St Hubert’s Catholic Church Alexandra page on Facebook.
