P.O.D. – Greatest Hits
CD REVIEW
A mainstay of the alternative rock scene for more than a decade, P.O.D. (Payable On Death) have accumulated enough of a catalogue to put together a credible Greatest Hits set. This one covers their output from 1998 to 2006 on the Atlantic label, which they have now left.
The hits are all there: Boom, Rock The Party, Goodbye For Now, Youth Of The Nation, and the anthemic Alive, plus the new rousing single Going In Blind—but not Portrait or Change The World. Also included is Truly Amazing, the song written for The Passion Of The Christ.
P.O.D.’s tough-as-nails hardcore rock may well alarm unsuspecting parents, but the lyrics don’t glorify all sorts of immorality and rebellion. These guys spread an uncompromisingly Christian message.
One may quibble that the order of the 17 tracks is not chronological (as best-of compilations ought to be), if only to date the deplorable development of the group’s ludicrous reggae influence.
Listen to: Alive; Going In Blind; Boom; Truly Amazing; Sleeping Awake.
