Veteran Catholic Women’s Association Member Tiny Mokgoko Laid To Rest
Veteran Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) member Ms Tiny Christinah Mokgoko was laid to rest on November 2 in Mmakau Village, north-west of Pretoria.
Ms Mokgoko was born on February 25, 1953, in Mmakau Village. Her home was adjacent with the Most Holy Redeemer Mission. She attended primary school at the mission’s De-Wildt Roman Catholic Primary School.
In 1983 she joined the Catholic Women’s Association (CWA). Over the years she assumed many positions and roles in the association, leading up to her passing. Beyond the CWA, she was also a member of the Archdiocese Justice and Peace Commission and also very active in the Maria Rosa Prayer Group.
Members of the CWA from across the archdiocese of Pretoria and beyond attended her funeral service at the Most Holy Redeemer Mission.
The Mass service was concelebrated by Fr Frederick Kavao CSS, Fr Luka Sitima CSS along wih Deacon Moeng Gregory Mogale and Bro Lino Bokaba CSS.
In his homily, Deacon Mogale highlighted the fact that when all human beings reach the gates of heaven, God is not going to judge them on what they owned or who they associated with in their earthly life, but on what they did for their neighbour.
“Two weeks ago we celebrated Mission Sunday. All of us who are baptised are missionaries on earth entrusted with the work of building God’s kingdom while we’re still alive. Mme Tiny Mokgoko excelled in her mission. It is on us to follow her example to be God’s light and active missionaries in the world today,” he said.
After the Mass service, several speakers spoke on the life of Ms Mokgoko. A fellow longtime CWA member related how Ms Mokgoko played a crucial role in the sodality’s growth in the archdiocese.
Childhood friend and neighbour Ms Rinny Bokaba related her growing up alongside Ms Mokgoko, and their activities as young parishioners at the Most Holy Redeemer Mission.
“In the early 1960’s, when the first Stigmatine Fathers arrived from Italy to our mission, it was Ms Mokgoko, myself and other young children who taught the priests the basics of the Setswana language. We went to school and also played in the mission, and went home only after the rosary prayers with the priests at six in the evening,” she said.
Other speakers expanded on Ms Mokgoko’s various other roles within the Church, including her instrumental role in the founding of the St Paul Church in Garankuwa along with late Stigmatine Fathers priest Fr Lino Vinco CSS and others.
After the service, a procession led by the CWA members led the funeral attendants to the gates of the mission. From there all attendants proceeded to the Mmakau Village Cemetery, where she was laid to rest.
