Think for Yourself
By James Katende – In a world where conformity is often valued over individuality, it’s refreshing to come across people who think for themselves. These individuals are not swayed by popular opinion or pressured into following the crowd. Instead, they take the time to evaluate information, consider different perspectives, and form their own opinions.
As the Bible says in Proverbs 14:15, “The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” This verse highlights the importance of critical thinking and discernment. It encourages us to be thoughtful and intentional in our decision-making, rather than simply following the crowd.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:21, we are instructed to “test everything” and “hold fast what is good.” This verse emphasises the need to evaluate information and experiences and to hold onto what is true and good.
Romans 12:2 reminds us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This verse encourages us to think differently, to renew our minds and transform our thinking.
Psalm 119:130 says, “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” This verse highlights the importance of seeking wisdom and understanding, and of being open to new ideas and perspectives.
God desires for us to think for ourselves, to seek wisdom and understanding, and to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. When we do this, we are able to discern what is good and acceptable, and we are able to live a life that is true to who we are and what we believe.
As we strive to think for ourselves, let us remember to seek guidance from God. Let us ask for wisdom and discernment, and let us be open to new ideas and perspectives. By doing so, we can experience the freedom and empowerment that comes from thinking for ourselves, and we can live a life that honours God.
May we be people who think for themselves, who seek wisdom and understanding, and who are transformed by the renewal of our minds. May we be people who are not conformed to this world, but who are transformed by the power of God.
